Guess what. I'm bored.

I ended up reading around 50 pages of The Red Tree last night. It's really good! It has this feel to it that I don't get very often in books, this contemplative melancholy feel. There's not a lot of action and there is lots of rumination, but it works. It's also interesting that the main character, Sarah, is pretty unlikable. She's self-absorbed but way too self-deprecating at the same time. The writing just flows and flows, though, and it's intriguing to be inside Sarah's head. I've always kind of liked unlikable characters and unreliable narrators. It's why I'm such a big fan of In the Woods by Tana French and Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers, two of my favorite books.
I had my appointment with my psych yesterday, and she upped the dosage on my Rexulti. She says it sounds like I've been going through a depressive episode, and I agree with her. I haven't been overly depressed, but I've been feeling very flat and listless. Most of the time, I just want to take a nap as opposed to doing anything entertaining or productive. Hopefully the higher dosage will help with this general "meh" feeling.
I found some new icons, and this Nijika one that I'm using is so cute. I miss Bocchi the Rock. Can't wait til the movies come out this year!
All from The Friday Five:
1. What are some pencil-and-paper puzzles you enjoy?
I like word searches and crossword puzzles.
2. What are some video (or computer or mobile app) puzzle games you’ve enjoyed?
Ooh, this is my jam! Unpacking, Gorogoa, the Portal games, and tons of point-and-click adventure games that are full of puzzles, like The Excavation of Hob's Barrow and Conquests of the Longbow.
3. When did you last work on a jigsaw puzzle?
My dad and I worked a bunch of puzzles together during Covid. We had some that illustrated different birds.
4. What’s puzzling you right now?
Some accounts that I'm working on at work
5. Who is the most enigmatic person you know?
I don't know very many enigmatic people. Maybe Danny? He's not super open with his thoughts a lot of the time. I've gotta pull 'em out of him sometimes, haha.
----
1. What’s a song that recently moved you?
Charlotte Wessels and Simone Simons did a cover of "Winter" by Tori Amos on Charlotte's Patreon hangout. It's my favorite song ever, and their rendition of it literally gave me chills.
2. What’s a song that recently moved you — right out the door?
Every time I hear that country cover of "Fast Car," it makes me mildly angry. I love the original song, and I feel that the cover doesn't come close to doing it justice.
3. What kinds of dance performances interest you?
K-pop dance routines are always super fun to watch.
4. What’s a good song with the word "move" (or some form of it) in the title?
"The Way You Move" by Outkast
5. How do you feel about prunes?
I like prune juice, but I don't think I've ever had prunes on their own before.
----
1. What’s got you behind the 8-ball?
I had to look up what this means, haha. I guess I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at work.
2. Who would you like to see a VH-1-Behind-the-Music-style documentary about?
Simone Simons
3. What are you likely to find behind your sofa?
We have a console table behind our sofa.
4. What’s something you’d like to put behind you this year?
Negative thoughts and self-doubt
5. What’s something you don’t want to eat if there’s no ketchup?
Hot dogs
----
1. What’s something you hated as a teen but love today?
Lots of foods. My palate has expanded as I've gotten older. Also, I would never have admitted that I liked certain pop musicians that I love today, like Pink and Britney Spears.
2. What’s something you recently dreaded that turned out not too bad?
A work meeting with my boss. It actually turned out really good.
3. How do you feel about February as it compares to January?
I like it better. It's one month closer to spring! I'm also a sucker for Valentine's Day.
4. Who among people you know is really making the world a better place?
My sister. She works for a nonprofit that does after-school programs for at-risk kids and teens.
5. In what way is today better than yesterday?
I'm feeling a little better mentally today.
